Brief profile
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) – a Navratna Public Sector Enterpriseunder the Ministry of Steel, with 100% ownership of GoI, is the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). VSP is India’s first shore based integrated steel plant, located at Visakhapatnam and has a rated capacity of 7.3 Mtpa of liquid steel. A pioneer in the Indian steel industry in adoption of system standards, VSP is accredited for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CMMI Level-3 & ISO 27001 and is the first PSE to be certified for ISO 50001 for Energy Management System.
Technological facilities & capacities
The process of steel making at VSP is through the BF-BOF route. Technologies adopted during inception of plant were the first of its kind in the Indian steel industry and has been a source of competitive advantage in operational efficiency. This has further been strengthened with stabilization of expansion units and modernized units which have the latest technological features.

Green Technologies:
Clean technologies since inception with an investment of 5.5% of the total project cost. The thrust on clean technologies continued even during the expansion to 6.3 Mtpa with 10.3% of the total project cost and 15% of the total project cost during 7.3Mt Modernization stage. Products & Market:
RINL is a major steel producer in the country and has exclusive mix of long steel products catering to diverse applications in manufacturing and construction sectors.
The principal products of VSP include steel products comprising of re-bars, wire rods, rounds, structurals, blooms & billets and pig iron. Also, the company markets the resulting by-products like coal chemicals (Ammonium Sulphate, Benzol products etc.) and slag.
